Nainital is one of the most exquisite places on Earth. I, Elvin Siew Chun Wai, really love it. When I reached Nainital, I was so amazed that I decided to learn the history and interesting facts pertinent to this city. In my research, I discovered many exciting facts about the city that I would love to share with you in this travel blog.
Let’s get started.
- I, Elvin Siew Chun Wai, discovered that Nainital had its existence even before the birth of Jesus Christ. Its ancient name was Khadesh.
- Nainital has got its name from the name of the goddess Naina (a deity in the Hindu religion before which Hindus bow their heads with full respect to get her blessings).
- Nainital has 7 lakes of freshwater and is recognized as the lake city of India. The town Indian town has many similarities with the Cumbria, a town in the UK, so many Britishers call it the Cumbria of India.
- The most surprising fact about Nainital has that the city has its own private rain that happens every afternoon. I, Elvin Siew Chun Wai, know you would not find it easy to believe this fact, but this is true, and this occurs because of the lake in the northern end.
- Nainital is a cosmopolitan city because you can find people of all religions here. The most interesting fact about is that you will find a church, temple, gurudwara, and mosque within a km. So, you can see people of all religions praying their gods just within 1 km.
- Nainital has the oldest golf course in India, and that golf course was established by Britishers in 1926.
- During British rule in India, it was used as the summer capital of the United Province.
- Britishers loved this location so much that they established many schools here for the education of their children living with them in India.
- Unlike most other hill stations, the city has two mall roads.
